Shasta County Jail Roster

The Shasta County, California Jail Roster is a public resource that allows you to check if a specific individual is in custody. On the ShastaCourt.us website, you can find publicly available information about current and recently arrested individuals. Additionally, data is available through the official website of the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, which maintains the Inmate Locator, as well as by phone or during a personal visit to the jail. The roster allows the public to check custody status, charges filed, and booking date. The Shasta County Sheriff's Office maintains this roster and updates it regularly throughout the day.

Search Current Inmates in Shasta Jail

There are several ways to check if a specific individual is currently held in Shasta County Jail.

Online Search

  1. Visit ShastaCourt.us to search for publicly available court and penitentiary information.
  2. Use the official Shasta County Inmate Locator tool on the sheriff's office website. The page typically lists individuals in custody, with the option to view or use the browser's search function (Ctrl+F) to quickly find a last name.
  3. Prepare the full legal name of the individual (last name and first name) or the booking number if you know it for the search.

Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public registry — this is a requirement of California state law.

By Phone

Call the jail directly. The operator can confirm if a specific individual is in custody if you provide the full name or booking number.

Personal Visit

You can inquire at the information window in the jail lobby during business hours.

To check court cases related to criminal charges, use the Court Case Records section on the Shasta County Superior Court website. Information about individuals transferred to state facilities is available through the CDCR Incarcerated Records & Information Search (CIRIS).

Find Shasta Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created every time an individual is brought to jail and goes through the booking process. This is the first official document that records the fact of detention.

During booking, the following data is generated:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission to the facility
  • List of charges filed
  • Name of the agency that made the arrest
  • Basic identification data of the detainee — name, date of birth, gender

In Shasta County, booking records typically appear in the online inmate roster after the booking process is completed. If you need a document that no longer appears in the active roster, submit a Public Records Act request to the sheriff's office. According to the California Public Records Act, government agencies are required to provide access to government documents, except for information protected by law.

Court records related to criminal cases — including misdemeanors (DUI, petty theft) and felonies — can be viewed through the criminal division of the county superior court.

Search the Shasta Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the individual's last name. Additionally, you can specify the first name to narrow down the results. A few tips:

  • Check the spelling — even one letter can change the result.
  • If the system supports partial search, try entering only the first few letters of the last name.
  • Women may be registered under their maiden name or previous surname.

Search by Booking Number

If you know the booking number, enter it in the appropriate field. This method provides the most accurate result, as each number is unique.

What to Do if the Search Yields No Results

  1. Ensure the name is entered correctly — try different spellings.
  2. The individual may have already been released, transferred to another facility, or to the state system. Check CIRIS for a search among CDCR inmates.
  3. Call the jail at (530) 245-6100 and inquire directly.
  4. A recent booking may not yet be displayed — the booking process takes time.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Shasta

The Shasta County inmate roster is updated throughout the day, but it does not happen instantly. There is usually a delay between the actual arrest and the appearance of the record in the online system — from a few hours to a significant part of the day, depending on the jail's workload.

Main limitations to be aware of:

  • Delay after booking. While the individual is undergoing the booking process (photographing, fingerprinting, medical examination), their data may not appear in the roster.
  • Disappearance of records after release. The roster only shows those currently in custody. After release, posting bail, or transfer, the record is usually removed from the active list.
  • Not an archive. The online roster does not store the history of all past bookings. To obtain archival data, an official request must be submitted to the sheriff's office.
  • Data entry errors. Sometimes a name may be recorded incorrectly or under an alternative spelling, complicating the search.

To check court records, which are maintained independently of the jail roster, use the online services of the Shasta County Superior Court. Court documents remain accessible even after the individual is released from custody.
